The 24 Hour HTML5 Game Challenge

![]() |
appMobi held its first 24 Hour HTML5 Game Challenge in March 2011 to demonstrate the power and promise of HTML5 in combination with the appMobi XDK for rapid development of cross platform mobile apps.
Most commercial game apps take months and teams of programmers and graphic artists to complete. appMobi challenged a small group of its employees and a team of artists from the local animation firm Postage Inc. to create a high quality, commercially viable mobile game that runs on both Apple iOS and Google Android platforms, within only 24 hours. The teams began with nothing at 5:00 PM on March 18 and spent the next 24 hours designing, creating graphics and programming the game. The game was completed before 5:00 PM on March 19. The story line for “Kilroy was Here” is based on the “FUBAR” series of zombie-related comics by Jeff McComsey. It was created using only HTML5, JavaScript, the appMobi XDK, and the ImpactJS game development library. We believe this is a great example of how far HTML5 has come as a gaming platform, and how rapidly compelling games can be built with modern tools such as ImpactJS and appMobi |
